In metropolitan Adelaide, a tree is generally regulated if its trunk circumference is 1 metre or more, and significant if it’s 2 metres or more — measured 1 metre above natural ground level (multi-trunk trees are assessed differently). For regulated and significant trees, removal and major pruning usually require development approval through PlanSA or your council. Exemptions exist for some species, dead trees, emergencies and minor maintenance pruning. We confirm your tree’s status and any exemptions, and prepare the report council needs if an application is required.

Councils commonly ask for an arborist report with applications to remove or prune regulated and significant trees, and for developments near trees. Reports are also useful for insurance claims, disputes and property sales. Development reports are prepared with reference to AS 4970-2025, Protection of trees on development sites.
