Tree Assessment Summary Report
Sample · illustrative data
1. Brief
This assessment was initiated by the client in relation to the general health and structural condition of a large eucalypt in the rear garden, following the failure of a lateral limb during recent high winds. A visual tree assessment was performed from ground level.
2. Subject Tree
- Species
- Eucalyptus camaldulensis – River Red Gum
- Trunk circ. / DSH
- 2.41 m @ 1 m · DSH 770 mm
- Height / spread
- ≈ 21 m · 16 m
- Regulatory status
- Significant tree

3. Tree Observations
3.1 Health
Canopy density and leaf colour are typical for the species. Minor deadwood (< 50 mm) is distributed through the lower crown. No significant pest or disease indicators were observed.
3.2 Structure
The failed lateral originated from a union with included bark at approx. 6 m. The resulting wound is clean with no visible decay. Two further unions of similar form were noted on the north-western stem.
3.3 Risk of Whole Tree Failure
No root plate heaving, soil cracking or change in lean was observed. There is no evidence to indicate whole tree failure is likely.
4. Targets
The dwelling (rear verandah) lies within falling distance of the north-western stem. The rear lawn is occupied intermittently.
5. Tree Stability and Risk
| Part | Target | Risk rating |
|---|---|---|
| NW stem unions (included bark) | Verandah | Moderate |
| Lower crown deadwood | Rear lawn | Low |
| Whole tree | Dwelling | Low |
6. Recommendations
- Reduce end-weight on the two NW laterals by up to 2.5 m; max. cut diameter 100 mm, to AS 4373.
- Remove deadwood greater than 50 mm over the verandah and lawn.
- Retain the tree. Re-inspect in 24 months, or sooner after a major storm event.
